We had a problem with rainwater flooding our front yard for years, and it just kept getting worse. After this past spring’s storms, water started getting into our crawlspace and even our garage. We contacted a few people for help, but calling Mr. Tucker was the best decision I made. He was reliable, honest, and knowledgeable — gave us options, a fair quote right on time, and got to work quickly. He installed a drainage system that gives me peace of mind now when it rains. I can’t praise William enough and wouldn’t hesitate to work with him again. Highly recommend!

Early this spring we had a culvert to plug up with leaves and twigs causing water to wash over and down our driveway. I called William to come take a look at things and give us some ideas as to how we might repair and prevent this happening in the future. William responded quickly and came out to view the situation. He provided options as to what we might do and gave us what he thought would be the best approach. We gave him the go ahead. He came and did the work - it took a couple of days. We are very happy with the outcome. We've had one heavy rain since the work was done (nearly 5 inches of rain), and the new ditch handled the water perfectly. William has done work for us before in the spring of 2022. He is really good at sizing up situations and finding ways to solve problems. He is professional in all he does! I would recommend him highly - no reservations.

We had a major water drainage problem in our back yard. Holes were poping up all over the place during heavy rains. We call WM Tucker Excavating. He came out and found several problems, and fixed them. He even went above and beyond to make the back yard amazing. My wife is very happy with the job, and the price was great. I highly recommend WM Tucker Excavating & Landscaping.

William did an amazing job completing our site prep for a metal shop we are adding to our property. He did exactly what he proposed and went above and beyond making sure it was perfect. He stayed in constant communication which was very important to me. I had also had a couple companies come and provide estimates and his price was definitely better than the other companies. I highly recommend this company!

The most professional, polite and capable contractor I had ever had the privilege of working with. Had him level and add a driveway for a 54’x50’ shop and if I need any dirt work done in the future he will be getting a call from me.Two months after he completed the job his sign is still by my mailbox.

I am so thankful that I chose W.M. Tucker Excavating to create a drain for me at the back of the house in Erin. He was professional throughout the entire project and kept me updated on the timeline. He adjusted the grade around the perimeter of the house to keep water from pooling. William and Danny were very courteous and polite throughout the entire process and explained their progress every time they saw me coming and going. I feel like I have two new trustworthy friends. I would highly recommend you call William to discuss how he may be able to assist you with drainage problems. I am very satisfied with the work.

We reached out to William once more for help with a difficult project that required out of the box thinking. Having worked with him on several previous projects, we knew we could trust him to understand our needs and deliver a quality outcome. We were out of town at the time of the project work and had ZERO doubt William would deliver results on-time, fairly-priced, and backed by his prior deliveries. In the end, we could not be more satisfied and appreciative of what he did for us and the peace of mind we now have. We highly recommend William for ANY project he says he can do.

Absolutely amazing! 1.5 acres of poorly drained and compacted soil from a home build in 2011. When we arrived Summer of 2022 we noticed the water "ponding" along the North Side of the house and foundation. We went from a couple French Drain quotes to asking Mr. Tucker to do a nice pond for us. See photos, you will be amazed. Concrete block basement used to "seep" until Mr. Tucker's work August-September 2022. Since then, and very heavy rains on off past 3 years, dry as a bone and our yards is a thing of beauty. Mr. Tucker was patient ALWAYS on time, worked extra hours for us to make it right. When we received our quote my wife said "That's it we stick to budget no extras! 6 weeks into Tucker work wife said "He's good I want a pond and holes dug for trees. My wife spending more on excavating? Speaks volumes LOL. Brick homes, settling foundation, poor drainage, or leaky basement /crawl space, WM Tucker of Dickson TN is the best. Mr. Tucker came by this year (2025) asking how we were doing and making sure his work was still sound, nice follow up and dedication to customer service! First 2 photos are BEFORE last 2 are after. Amazing work

WHY PROPER DRAINAGE MATTERS

Poor drainage leads to foundation issues, washed out driveways, erosion, and unusable land. Water problems rarely fix themselves and often get worse over time.

Correct drainage protects the property and prevents costly repairs later.

  • Redirecting Water Away From Structures
  • Preventing Soil Erosion
  • Reducing Standing Water
  • Protecting Roads And Driveways
  • Improving Long Term Land Use

SURFACE AND SUBSURFACE DRAINAGE

Water moves both across the surface and underground. Effective drainage systems address both to prevent saturation and soft ground conditions.

Each solution is designed based on how water enters and moves through the property.

  • Surface Runoff Control
  • Subsurface Water Collection
  • Slope And Grade Adjustments
  • Drainage Channel Installation
  • Water Flow Redirection

CULVERTS AND DRAINAGE DITCHES

Culverts and open drainage systems are critical for managing water across roads, driveways, and low areas. When installed incorrectly, they become failure points.

We design these systems to handle expected water volume and protect surrounding areas.

  • Culvert Installation
  • Drainage Ditches
  • Swales And Berms
  • Roadside Drainage
  • Cross Drain Solutions

DRAINAGE REPAIR AND CORRECTION

Existing drainage systems often fail due to improper design or changes to the land. Fixing the root cause prevents repeat problems.

Repairs focus on restoring proper flow and correcting grading issues.

  • Washed Out Areas
  • Standing Water Problems
  • Clogged Or Collapsed Drains
  • Erosion Damage
  • Failed Culverts

If you are dealing with standing water, erosion, or drainage failures, WM Tucker can help.

Contact us to schedule a site assessment and discuss the right drainage solution for your property.

Drainage FAQs

What are signs of poor drainage on a property?

Standing water, erosion, muddy areas, foundation issues, and washed out driveways are common signs.

What is the difference between surface and subsurface drainage?

Surface drainage moves water across the ground. Subsurface drainage collects water below the surface and redirects it away.

Do French drains always solve drainage problems?

Not always. French drains work in certain conditions, but proper grading and surface control are often just as important.

Why does water keep coming back after a drainage fix?

This usually happens when only part of the problem was addressed. Water sources, slope, and soil must all be considered.

Can drainage problems damage foundations?

Yes. Poor drainage can cause soil movement, settling, and long term foundation issues.

How do you determine the best drainage solution?

By evaluating slope, soil, water sources, and how water moves across and below the surface.

What causes yard flooding?

Yard flooding is often caused by improper grading, compacted soil, or blocked drainage paths.

Are drainage ditches better than underground drains?

It depends on the site. Some properties benefit from open drainage while others need subsurface systems.

Can drainage issues be fixed without tearing up the whole yard?

In some cases yes. The solution depends on where the water originates and how it moves.

When should drainage be addressed?

As soon as problems appear. Drainage issues usually worsen over time and become more expensive to fix.
