PONDS AND LAKES SERVICES

We provide pond and lake services for properties needing new water features or repairs to existing systems. Every site is evaluated for soil conditions, water sources, and drainage patterns before work begins.

  • Detention And Retention Ponds
  • New Pond Excavation
  • Pond Repair
  • Pond Expansion
  • Dam Repair

Our pond and lake work focuses on long term performance, not just appearance. We shape basins correctly, compact soils, and manage inflow and overflow to reduce erosion, leakage, and sediment buildup.

Whether building a new pond or repairing an existing one, we account for Middle Tennessee soil conditions, rainfall patterns, and surrounding land use to help ensure stable water levels and reliable function over time.

We had a problem with rainwater flooding our front yard for years, and it just kept getting worse. After this past spring’s storms, water started getting into our crawlspace and even our garage. We contacted a few people for help, but calling Mr. Tucker was the best decision I made. He was reliable, honest, and knowledgeable — gave us options, a fair quote right on time, and got to work quickly. He installed a drainage system that gives me peace of mind now when it rains. I can’t praise William enough and wouldn’t hesitate to work with him again. Highly recommend!

Early this spring we had a culvert to plug up with leaves and twigs causing water to wash over and down our driveway. I called William to come take a look at things and give us some ideas as to how we might repair and prevent this happening in the future. William responded quickly and came out to view the situation. He provided options as to what we might do and gave us what he thought would be the best approach. We gave him the go ahead. He came and did the work - it took a couple of days. We are very happy with the outcome. We've had one heavy rain since the work was done (nearly 5 inches of rain), and the new ditch handled the water perfectly. William has done work for us before in the spring of 2022. He is really good at sizing up situations and finding ways to solve problems. He is professional in all he does! I would recommend him highly - no reservations.

We had a major water drainage problem in our back yard. Holes were poping up all over the place during heavy rains. We call WM Tucker Excavating. He came out and found several problems, and fixed them. He even went above and beyond to make the back yard amazing. My wife is very happy with the job, and the price was great. I highly recommend WM Tucker Excavating & Landscaping.

William did an amazing job completing our site prep for a metal shop we are adding to our property. He did exactly what he proposed and went above and beyond making sure it was perfect. He stayed in constant communication which was very important to me. I had also had a couple companies come and provide estimates and his price was definitely better than the other companies. I highly recommend this company!

The most professional, polite and capable contractor I had ever had the privilege of working with. Had him level and add a driveway for a 54’x50’ shop and if I need any dirt work done in the future he will be getting a call from me.Two months after he completed the job his sign is still by my mailbox.

I am so thankful that I chose W.M. Tucker Excavating to create a drain for me at the back of the house in Erin. He was professional throughout the entire project and kept me updated on the timeline. He adjusted the grade around the perimeter of the house to keep water from pooling. William and Danny were very courteous and polite throughout the entire process and explained their progress every time they saw me coming and going. I feel like I have two new trustworthy friends. I would highly recommend you call William to discuss how he may be able to assist you with drainage problems. I am very satisfied with the work.

We reached out to William once more for help with a difficult project that required out of the box thinking. Having worked with him on several previous projects, we knew we could trust him to understand our needs and deliver a quality outcome. We were out of town at the time of the project work and had ZERO doubt William would deliver results on-time, fairly-priced, and backed by his prior deliveries. In the end, we could not be more satisfied and appreciative of what he did for us and the peace of mind we now have. We highly recommend William for ANY project he says he can do.

Absolutely amazing! 1.5 acres of poorly drained and compacted soil from a home build in 2011. When we arrived Summer of 2022 we noticed the water "ponding" along the North Side of the house and foundation. We went from a couple French Drain quotes to asking Mr. Tucker to do a nice pond for us. See photos, you will be amazed. Concrete block basement used to "seep" until Mr. Tucker's work August-September 2022. Since then, and very heavy rains on off past 3 years, dry as a bone and our yards is a thing of beauty. Mr. Tucker was patient ALWAYS on time, worked extra hours for us to make it right. When we received our quote my wife said "That's it we stick to budget no extras! 6 weeks into Tucker work wife said "He's good I want a pond and holes dug for trees. My wife spending more on excavating? Speaks volumes LOL. Brick homes, settling foundation, poor drainage, or leaky basement /crawl space, WM Tucker of Dickson TN is the best. Mr. Tucker came by this year (2025) asking how we were doing and making sure his work was still sound, nice follow up and dedication to customer service! First 2 photos are BEFORE last 2 are after. Amazing work

WHY PROPER POND DESIGN MATTERS

Ponds that are poorly designed or constructed often fail to hold water or create downstream issues. Water depth, soil type, and drainage must all be considered.

Proper pond design protects the property and supports long term water management.

  • Stable Pond Structure
  • Controlled Water Levels
  • Reduced Erosion Risk
  • Improved Drainage Performance
  • Long Term Pond Use

DETENTION AND RETENTION PONDS

Detention and retention ponds manage stormwater and runoff across a property. These systems must be sized and shaped correctly to function as intended.

We design and construct ponds to handle water volume and flow safely.

  • Stormwater Control
  • Runoff Management
  • Overflow Planning
  • Slope And Bank Stabilization
  • Outlet Protection

  • Drainage Correction

DAM REPAIR AND REINFORCEMENT

Pond dams play a critical role in water control and safety. Structural issues can lead to water loss or downstream damage.

Dam repairs are planned to restore stability and proper water flow.

DEMOLITION FAQs

What is the difference between a detention pond and a retention pond?

Detention ponds temporarily hold runoff and release it slowly. Retention ponds are designed to hold water long term.

How do you know if a pond will hold water?

Soil type, compaction, and water sources are evaluated during a site assessment to determine if a pond will hold water.

What causes ponds to leak?

Leaks are often caused by poor compaction, unsuitable soil, burrowing animals, or structural damage.

Can an existing pond be repaired instead of rebuilt?

In many cases yes. Repairs depend on the cause of the problem and overall pond condition.

Do ponds need drainage planning?

Yes. Overflow and spillway planning are critical to prevent erosion and downstream damage.

How deep should a pond be?

Depth depends on purpose, location, and soil conditions. Proper depth helps reduce vegetation issues and evaporation.

Can ponds help with drainage problems?

Yes. Properly designed ponds can manage runoff and improve drainage across a property.

What causes erosion around pond banks?

Erosion is usually caused by fluctuating water levels, runoff, or poor slope stabilization.

Are dam repairs important for safety?

Yes. Dam issues can lead to water loss or uncontrolled discharge if not addressed.

Is a site assessment needed before building a pond?

Yes. A site assessment helps determine placement, size, soil suitability, and water flow before excavation begins.
