Shop Building Site Prep and Driveway Construction

This project started with a clear goal. The Smith family needed full site preparation for a new shop building. The property included a hillside that limited usable space, so the first step was creating room for a stable, level building pad.

The Smiths said:

The most professional, polite and capable contractor I had ever had the privilege of working with. Had him level and add a driveway for a 54’x50′ shop and if I need any dirt work done in the future he will be getting a call from me.Two months after he completed the job his sign is still by my mailbox.

Cutting the Hillside and Building the Pad

We excavated into the hillside to reclaim usable material. That dirt was reused to build up the shop pad, which helped control costs and reduced off-site hauling.

The pad was built in controlled lifts and compacted for long-term stability. The finished surface is level, firm, and ready for construction traffic and concrete work.

Driveway Construction to the Shop Pad

We then built a gravel driveway leading up to the pad. Reliable access is critical for a shop building, especially when heavy trucks and equipment are involved.

The driveway was graded for proper slope and water flow. Stone was installed and compacted to create a durable surface that resists ruts and washouts.

Drainage Systems to Manage Water

Drainage was a major focus on this site.

We installed drainage along the side of the driveway to prevent runoff from eroding the drive. We also built a drainage system between the driveway and the shop pad to divert water away from the building area.

This setup helps protect the pad, the drive, and the surrounding ground during heavy rain.

Erosion Control and Final Stabilization

After grading and drainage work was complete, we stabilized the site.

Disturbed areas were seeded and covered with erosion matting. This helps hold soil in place, encourages grass growth, and reduces erosion while the site establishes.
